Richard Heinberg's new book, The Oil Depletion Protocol, coherently describes the Protocol and why such an agreement is necessary. Written for policy makers and the general public, the book is an informative and easy-to-understand must-read.

When the COST of the extraction of a resource is greater than the VALUE of that resource which is bieng extracted we will be in one place and one place only. Trouble !

Cosequently we should assume that the oil/gas will run out in 5 years. Then adopt every concievable method of conservation in an attempt to stretch it out for 10 years. And, during the interim, keep our fingers crossed that someone will invent an environmentally friendlier source of energy.
