Really cool info on building a nice small starter setup. I now feel that much more prepared for the coming zombie/nuclear/swamp animal apocalypse. thanks!

Nice video dude, I just got a question for you, say my battery has an amperage of 150AH. Now I connect an inverter to it, to supply power to my TV set. How do I work out how many hours of electricity I will have before the battery gets discharged? I will appreciate your comment very much, thank you.

Hi I have a question, does it matter what solar panel output voltage is if I use a regulator for my project? example if I want to payment my phone using a 8v panel and I use a 5v regulator is this ok? thanks!

Excellent job guys thats a excellent basic video- but sad those low voltage terminals won’t kill you. Just don’t stick your tongue to them!

Dude, you’ve just Rick Rolled all of us! LOL!

yeah that is like such a incorrect song for you tube

The Voltage from the panel has nothing to do with the direction of current flow (ie. from the battery back to the panel).
The controller reduces the voltage to protect the battery.
A diode in the controller prevents the flow of current from the battery back to the panel when it is dark, and the panel is not producing.

Vehicle batteries are made to stay close to full capacity, everywhere SLA batteries can be discharged further without hurt because they have thicker lead plates.
There is no such concept as “quick or slow release of current”

websuspect September 8, 2010 at 5:57 pm

Its not the voltage that kills you its the amp. For example. How many people get tazed with 50,000 volts and dont die but it only takes .01 Milli amps to kill a person. Also the voltage has to go through your heart so I like this guy hes got the best Solar video on here.

kdc43 September 8, 2010 at 6:10 pm

Chrischris349 is absolutely right. 12 volts can’t push enough amps through you to even feel it let alone get killed by it. If it were right I’d be dead 500 times over. Place your meter on the genteel array so you won’t burn up the meter and the leads.

do not use a car battery. they are are made for quick discharge. deep sequence are made for slow release. like for a golf cart or trolling motor for a boat

kyleain September 8, 2010 at 7:20 pm

too dark, shots should have been close up on hands not far away

packagewarren September 8, 2010 at 7:34 pm

way to go Ryan! excellent video, excellent audio. excellent presentation. you named all the components needed and what each one does very clearly. nice, very nice.

chrischris349 September 8, 2010 at 8:12 pm

Why do you exaggerate so much about the dangers of a deep sequence battery, though they can place out enormous amperage, at that voltage you aren’t going to become a hot dog. Or for that matter shocked in any way.

Rick Rolled!
